| Bio: | ![]() Name: Doctor Jennifer Amelia Lowe Nicknames: J (Jay), Jenny, Jen Role: Psychic/Newly qualified doctor Archetype: Good-natured healer Hat Color: White Nationality: American Languages: American English, Portuguese, Spanish Character Profile Personality: Jenny is hard-working and loves the satisfaction she gets from her job. She is open and communicative with everyone, forming bonds with her patients in a way that is often unusual for a doctor and she gets very attached to people. This makes it hard for her when they lose patients as she puts everything she has into trying to make them better. She gets very invested in people and takes their losses very hard and personally. She understands that she isn't a superhero but she wishes that she were sometimes because she wants to do right and help save the world, one person at a time. She has a genuine will to do good, even if she cannot always do it in the way she would like. She has a good sense of humour, though like anyone, when she is tired she has a very short fuse, especially when she has been on shift for fourteen hours and she has been asked to work another hour because her replacement hasn't arrived and she just wants to sleep! Mostly, she can take a joke at her expense unless she is at the tail end of one of the aforementioned shifts of if it's six in the morning. She doesn't like mornings all that much even though she knows they are a necessary evil. As a friend, Jenny will move the earth for you if she can, lend you money if you need it, cook you a meal and offer you a couch to sleep on. She loves her friends dearly and keeps them close, especially since she doesn't have a wide social circle. She loves being around people, even if the way that they act sometimes makes her despair a little for the human race, and finds that she misses human contact in a social sense when she has been working too much. History: When Jennifer was born, her parents were over the moon, but their first child, Benjamin, was not so happy. Not at first anyway. Her parents were modest people, a primary school teacher and a mechanic, but they earned a good wage and were able to take good care of their daughter. When she was a baby, she would often seem to be far away and for a while her family were worried that she was autistic due to the fact that she never seemed to be focused on anything or able to communicate. It took her a year and a half to talk but other than that she seemed 'normal' until she was about three or four where her parents would catch her babbling into the air and then holding conversations with people that weren't there. A child psychologist claimed that it wasn't unusual for only children to invent imaginary friends to keep them company and if she just got a little more attention from her parents she should be fine and start interacting with the children at her kindergarten. It didn't happen. Instead, Jenny got more distant and kept talking at the air, yelling at it sometimes, telling it to leave her alone and she would run and hide. She would be found at break time in the middle of the playground with her eyes closed. There was a pleasure she got from being surrounded by people. She didn't think there was anything wrong with it, but when she told her mother how being around people made her feel, she was told never to speak of it again because it was wrong. At the time, Jenny was seeing the psychologist because she could hear voices from the people around her. She said that they were just in her head, but that it helped her to know things she shouldn't. She refused to believe that she was hearing things and was put on medication until her early teens where the mother of a friend of hers, who was a Wiccan and believed in all manner of supernatural beings, told her that she was special and taught her how to control her telepathy to drown out the constant noise of her life. She learned quickly, being a dedicated student. With the 'voices' gone, Jenny came off the medication and her turn of the strange was brushed under the carpet of childish fancy and it was never mentioned again. It became known in her family as the years that 'shall not be mentioned'. They continued as normal from then on, Jenny working hard at school to be just like her brother who graduated and went to college, leaving Key West behind and all that it entailed. Jenny did the same a few years later, graduating high school and leaving Key West so that she could pursue a career in Medicine. She did two years pre-med in Miami before going on to do her four years training at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, followed by a three year residency at a nearby hospital. It was vital that she did all her training because of the practise and techniques she learned whilst she was there. A few times during her training, she instinctively knew what was wrong and where the problem was, almost as if she could see it, and she always knew which patients were about to flatline, and those that were about to die. It was something that she was very surprised and scared about and was always sure to keep it under her belt and not mention it to anyone. Because she was going to be an on-ward doctor rather than a specialist, she graduated after this and became certified, deciding that she was going to return home to her roots. Upon her return to Key West, she began working at the LKMC, being accepted as a member of staff due to her immaculate record and shining references from the staff at the University. She moved in with an old friend and started work. She doesn't get out much, but that's fine by her, even though she's got incredible control over her telepathy, she still gets unnerved by large crowds. And generally, she despairs of people. Other notes: Taps her lower lip with her pen when she's thinking. Carries a bottle of hygiene gel with her at all times. She is half Brazilian, speaks Portuguese and also Spanish. She loves coffee. Abilities: Jennifer is a telepath and at the moment that is all she believes she can do. She can read surface thoughts and dive deeper if she so wishes, but doing so gives her a headache. The only times she uses her powers are when she needs to know something from a patient that can't speak or when she feels she - or someone she cares about - is in danger. However, she has noticed an ability to almost sense when there is something wrong with someone, past what has already been diagnosed and usually a lot more serious. As this develops, she will, in fact, be able to read auras and use that to tell what is wrong with patients - and people in general. As such, this is an ability that is latent and not at all at the forefront of talents. Strengths: dedicated, loves helping people, controlled ability means she can do her job efficiently, hard working, trustworthy, good in a crisis, level-headed Weaknesses: workaholic, powers give her a headache if she's been using them in a focused way, a little bit of a hypochondriac at times, overprotective of her friends, tends to abuse her ability when she feels that there's something amiss GMC: To work at the LKMC and get through her first year as a Doctor without having a nervous breakdown.
