Safe (Jenny's Epilogue)

September 3rd 2014
Middle of Nowhere
Kind of late at night

Even though she hadn't felt deserving of a wish, there was a moment when Jenny had been staring up into the white nothingness and longed for control.

It had slowly started to come to her, through processes of her learning to build up and sustain the walls that she had been given. Whilst she could filter out about eighty percent of the noise, some of it still leaked through her barriers. She was spacey, but not as much as before and she quite willingly went with Alec and Toby when she was invited along on a road trip.

They had seen the biggest ball of twine in the world, would be heading towards the Grand Canyon at some point too, all enjoying the time away from Chicago and the events of the past.

It was a new start, a new slate, and a new life, for all of them.

She spent most of the time they travelled stretched out across the back seat of the car, playing with Wolf's fur and telling her travelling companions the strangest facts about random people that passed them on the road.

Being broken down on the side of the road shouldn't have been as funny as it was, considering it was late and they were going to get axe-murdered - at least, that was what Toby thought - any minute now. But there she was, high on sugar and giggling to herself, the image of Alec just waving his hands at the spare tyre like it would magically fit itself, and Toby standing beside him, holding his cell phone up to the sky as if asking God to fix it for them was too funny for her not to laugh.

Even though there was the immediate danger of being killed by a wandering psychopath, Jenny felt safe and happy.

Two things she could more than find herself getting used to.
